I work in operations and have never written code beyond a few spreadsheet formulas. The Gen AI Engineering course looks really interesting but I'm worried I'll get lost in the first module.

Has anyone started from zero? Is there anything I should learn first, or can I just begin and pick things up as I go?

You can start, and starting is low risk. The course is built in three parts: first how language models actually work (concepts, no coding needed), then wiring them into real software, then turning that into an agent. The first part is the foundation and is very approachable.

My honest advice:

  • Begin with Module 1 and see how it feels. It's mostly mental models, so it's a good test.
  • Expect Modules 2 and 3 to involve code. You don't have to be a programmer to follow, but be ready to copy, run and tweak things, and to look up basics as you go.
  • If it feels like too big a jump, take the A-Z Claude Masterclass first. It's the gentler route into AI and you'll arrive at the engineering course with much more confidence.

And if you get stuck on a specific step, post it here with the lesson name. Questions from beginners are exactly what this forum is for.
